You’d Never Expect What These Animals Were Used For In The Military.

, , , , , ,

Animals have always been used in times of war. While there are some animals that have been used more than others (like dogs and horses), we know there are other kinds of animals have played pivotal roles in times of war. Here are some of the stranger, or at least most unexpected animal warriors that have seen the field of battle:

1.) Bats were used to carry bombs in times of war experimentally. Unfortunately, for the masterminds behind the project, the project was a huge failure.

2.) Sea Lions have often been recruited by the Navy as trained deep sea divers.

3.) Elephants have been used in times of war as transports and as mounts for military arms.

4.) Pigs have been used to transport items during war.

5.) In the early days of war, it wasn’t too uncommon to see hoards of oxen being used to transport forces.

6.) Pigeons have had multiple uses during times of war. They have been used to carry messages and sometimes they have even been used as flying bombs.

7.) Dogs have had many uses in conflict. They have been used to attack enemy forces, to search and find wounded soldiers, and detecting mines.

8.) Dolphins? Are You Serious? Yes I am, dolphins have been used by the navy for mine detection.

9.) Military rats. While they have an unfortunate end, rats have been used to carry disease to enemy troops and have also had explosives strapped to them to explode behind enemy lines.

10.) Camels have mainly been used as transports in desert areas and step hills for military purposes.

11.) While it isn’t used in modern times, there have been pieces of evidence that rhinos have been used as attack animals in early times of war.

Well, that certainly made me look at those animals differently… wow. Click below to share this post with others (they’ll never look at their dog the same way again).
