Rep. Diana DeGette’s office ‘corrects’ gun gaffe with another gun gaffe

U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette put her foot in her mouth Tuesday by telling an older man at a gun forum that, armed or not, he’d “probably be dead anyway” if armed intruders broke into his home. She must have had quite an appetite for feet, because she followed up by questioning the need to ban high-capacity magazines, since they’ll be used up over time anyway once they’re fired.

Wait, she didn’t mean magazines, obviously. According to her spokeswoman, Juliet Johnson, firearms authority Rep. DeGette meant to say that clips would be used up, not magazines. The Denver Post reports:

“The congresswoman has been working on a high-capacity assault magazine ban for years and has been deeply involved in the issue; she simply misspoke in referring to ‘magazines’ when she should have referred to ‘clips,’ which cannot be reused because they don’t have a feeding mechanism,” Johnson said.

Thank you for the clarification, Professor Shoots-a-lot. Tell us, do you go skeet shooting “all the time” with President Obama as well? He probably taught you all about “magazine clips” and how they work.

@repdianadegette You meant Clip and not Magazine you say. Did you know that both are reusable? No, I guess not.
