Dogs With Dreadlocks Are All the Rage in Hungary

, , ,

They look like mop-creatures straight out of a Dr. Seuss book, but don’t be fooled. These silly creatures with long dreadlocks aren’t fiction. They’re Komondor dogs from Hungary and they are very much real.

These guard dogs are considered national treasures of Hungary, special because of their long corded coat (the heaviest in the canine world). We’re not sure how they act as good guard dogs, however. Anything they come across would just want to cuddle with them.

Komondor dogs, a national treasure of Hungary, is a guard dog.

They are large working dogs whose fur naturally form dreadlocks or “cords.”

An adult’s Komondor’s fur can reach up to 27cm long and weigh nearly 60lbs, making it the heaviest amount of fur in the canine world.

When a “mop dog” takes a bath, it can take nearly two full days to try (like that is a surprise).

Komondor dogs (or Komondorok) are smart, gentle and make wonderful guard dogs for livestock.

Just, please, try not attempt to use them to clean your floors.

Komondorok are majestic creatures. If you are inspired to buy one, we only ask you one thing: don’t name it Bob Marley.
