Jake Tapper: I understand why people took offense to Chris Hayes’ ‘discomfort’

Tapper was responding to this tweet by HuffPo’s Radley Balko:
The overreaction to the @chrislhayes comment is now the dumbest fake Internet outrage in weeks. http://t.co/Qaymw6Zd
— Radley Balko (@radleybalko) May 28, 2012
Twitchy covered MSNBC’s Chris Hayes’ callous remarks about our military yesterday. It seems that Balko views the Twitter backlash against Hayes as much ado about nothing. Twitchy disagrees, and so does ABC’s Tapper:
@ggreenwald respectfully, i see a lot of legitimate outrage among vets + families.
— Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) May 28, 2012
@jaketapper @ggreenwald By "legitimate," do you mean authentic, or do you mean justified?
— Radley Balko (@radleybalko) May 28, 2012
@radleybalko @ggreenwald i mean "authentic." Apologize for improper diction, been a long weekend.
— Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) May 28, 2012
@chrisgeidner @digby56 @radleybalko @chrislhayes so if theyre offended theyre "uninformed"? I dont agree.
— Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) May 28, 2012
@ggreenwald @radleybalko i dont know thats true. He seemed to undercut the idea that the fallen can be "heroes" just for having been there.
— Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) May 28, 2012
@ggreenwald i get that but I think he took it farther than that by suggesting the word "heroes" is over-used. On a weekend of mourning.
— Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) May 28, 2012
@ggreenwald am judging only by those who have lost loved ones in war, writing on Facebook — it caused pain.
— Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) May 28, 2012
@ggreenwald im not disputing that, im disputing the notion that the offense was faux.
— Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) May 28, 2012
@bmaz @digby56 @radleybalko @chrislhayes my only point is that not all the outrage was bogus and ginned up. People were hurt. tapper out
— Jake Tapper (@jaketapper) May 28, 2012
Thank you, Mr. Tapper, for explaining to those less perceptive, willfully or otherwise, why our troops matter.
For his part, Balko chimed in with his own thoughts on honoring our heroes, both living and fallen:
The best way to honor war veterans: Stop needlessly creating new ones.
— Radley Balko (@radleybalko) May 28, 2012
This is what naiveté looks like.
No. RT @radleybalko: The best way to honor war veterans: Stop needlessly creating new ones.

How about u rid world of evil first cc @KurtSchlichter MT @radleybalko: The best way 2honor war veterans: Stop needlessly creating new ones.

Liberals see our vets as 'victims'…not as heroes (which is consistent with their general disdain for everyone beneath their snouts)
— A.S. Bland (@MeSoBland) May 28, 2012
Liberals feel sorry for our vets, while conservatives honor them and respect their sacrifice
— A.S. Bland (@MeSoBland) May 28, 2012
Well said.
Bless our military.
