Citizens to Mayor Bloomberg: New York’s water, not guns, kills dolphins

A dolphin that found its way into Brooklyn’s heavily polluted Gowanus Canal died late Friday afternoon, dashing hopes that the animal would find its way to safety with the rise of the tide. Biologist Robert DiGiovanni told the New York Daily News that it was unsafe for rescuers to enter the polluted water of the canal, which the EPA declared a Superfund site in 2010.
Quite a few tweeters called out Nanny Bloomberg for allowing a life to slip through his usually overreaching fingers.
Dear Mayor Bloomberg: A body of water in your city is so dirty it killed a dolphin in 8 hours. My gun has killed nobody. Shut up.

Mayor Bloomberg doesn’t care about Dolphin People

More like the Gowanus Assault Canal.

Let’s put the blame of the death of the @gowanusdolphin where it belongs: the evil lobbying of the @nra.

Thank god the Gowanus Canal wasn’t filled with soda or that would be the end of all sugary drinks in NYC

Gowanus dolphin died? I guess if you put any animal is a swimming pool full of hepatitis and sitcoms and Guy Fieri and spears, it’ll die.

I hope the #GowanusDolphin rises up like the Toxic Avenger & hunts down the humans who polluted the canal.

How many more marine mammals have to die before Bloomberg takes action?

Expected this dolphin situation to end with Cory Booker jumping in to save it.
— Jon Gabriel (@ExJon) January 26, 2013
Nope, Brooklyn is out of Super Mayor’s jurisdiction; besides, he was busy saving a dog from freezing. Hear that, Bloomberg? Booker saved the dog.
Seriously, if he can’t save a helpless dolphin, what porpoise is Mayor Bloomberg serving?

All jokes aside, the contamination in the canal is no joke.
@europabridge1 @marikacobbold The city has divers who do work in the rivers all the time. It’s possible Gowanus is too toxic even for them.

Hey, @mikebloomberg, how much longer will you ignore the toxic waters of the Gowanus Canal? People LIVE near it.
