This Man Collected Over $20,000 In Change. And Now He’s Giving It Away.
Coin collectors usually fall somewhere between the meticulous curator and those who grab what they find in couches before heading to a Coinstar machine. This Florida man took a different approach when he started gathering discarded change 10 years ago. Rick Snyder saved every nickel and dime he found, and now it adds up to one pretty penny.
His diligence drums up to a whopping $21,495. And he knows exactly what he’s going to do with it.
He’s donating the entire sum to help take care of the feral cats in his neighborhood. Snyder was passionate about these cats for years.
The change weighs over 1 combined metric ton. Wow.

Snyder gathered the change while making his way around town to take care of the cats. He woke up at 4:00 every morning and checked car washes and vending machines for discarded coins. His original goal was $10,000, and now that he’s more than doubled it, he’s giving it all to the Gulf Shore Animal League.
The non-profit organization is run completely on volunteers and donations like Snyder’s. Organization president Cheryl Wade admits this is the largest donation they’ve received from a single person.
