Human prop-aganda: Dems display ‘faces of hunger’ in food stamp fight

As Twitchy reported yesterday, Texas Rep. Steve Stockman’s interns were reportedly barred from bringing photos of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens, Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods to the the Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Benghazi. There was apparently no problem bringing photos of the “faces of hunger” — not to mention a steak, a bottle of vodka and caviar — to the House floor today as props in the fight over the Farm Bill.
That bill, which passed the House today 217 to 210, would cut $40 billion from the food stamp program over the next 10 years. That, of course, led to charges that Republicans were trying to starve women and children and veterans. For good measure, Democrats brought photos of some of those women and children as examples of the “face of hunger.”

Rep. Jackie Speier noted that, while Democrats are taking the SNAP Challenge and eating on pennies a meal, some Republicans are traveling abroad on official business, eating steak and drinking vodka. She didn’t mention any of President Obama’s lavish vacations, but she did bring a plate of steak and a jar of caviar as props. (We wonder if she submitted an expense report for those.)
As long as we’re talking about taking food out of the mouths of women and children, it’s worth nothing that the Democrat-controlled Senate’s version of the Farm Bill, passed in June, would also cut the SNAP program, by about $400 million a year.
