Clown Jay Carney: Obama’s social media machine is ‘independent’ from Obama

http://twitter.com/#!/rorycooper/status/306121060208750594

Over the weekend, The New York Times (yes, that New York Times) reported that Organizing for Action, Obama’s rebooted campaign arm, has been selling White House access to donors who pledge at least $500,000. And, when confronted about the report today, simpering Press Secretary Jay Carney insisted that OFA is just an “independent organization”:

Right. An “independent organization” that — purely coincidentally, of course — runs the official @BarackObama Twitter account:

Here you go media, here’s the proof you need to prove Jay Carney is a liar -> @barackobama is controlled by “independent” OFA. #tcot #p2

Barack Obama Twitter page

Hey Jay, that painful burning sensation you’re feeling? Your pants are on fire.

@rbpundit It depends on what your definition of independendent “is”, right, @presssec& @barackobama? #OFA

Needless to say, many Twitterers are a bit puzzled:

I’m confused. OFA runs @barackobama ‘s feed, but they don’t have any connection to him now? Huh? And Obama still signs tweets there “BO.”

— Heather (@hmfearny) February 25, 2013

What about the Twitter Verified status of the @barackobama account? If it’s not really the president, should it be verified as such?

— George Scoville (@stackiii) February 25, 2013

Unreal RT @rbpundit: @realmreynolds Totally. Oh hey, who controls the @barackobama twitter account? OFA. @pounderfile @presssec

— Matthias Reynolds (@RealMReynolds) February 25, 2013

Sort of hard for Carney to distance the White House from OFA when they control @barackobama and he still tweets from there sometimes.

— Andrew Kaczynski (@BuzzFeedAndrew) February 25, 2013

Sort of, yeah.

@rbpundit If OFA controls the @barackobama twitter feed, then how can they claim tax-exempt status? Legally claim, that is.

— Rschrim (@Rschrim) February 25, 2013

@rorycooper @josephmosby @barackobama how can OFA be a 501(c)(4)? arent those NPs for supporting legislation not specific condidates?

— Jay Zeis (@JayZeis) February 25, 2013

The supposedly “independent” OFA is tweeting stuff pinning Obama’s sequester on Republicans. twitter.com/BarackObama/st… Weird!

— RB (@RBPundit) February 25, 2013

Isn’t it? But wait — there’s more! Here’s L.A. Times reporter Matea Gold:

Worth noting that while Carney says OFA is an “independent organization,” OFA runs @barackobama account and his Facebook page.

— Matea Gold (@mateagold) February 25, 2013

OFA’s also tied to BarackObama.com:

If @ofa is really independent, how come they don’t even have an independent URL. Their website is barackobama.com.

— Ian Patrick Hines (@ianpatrickhines) February 25, 2013

OFA Twitter page

Move along, folks.

@barackobama , @presssec , @ofa , your corruption is showing…

— Krystle (@TarheelKrystle) February 25, 2013

Nothing to see here.

Correction:

The initial version of this post mistakenly called OFA Obama’s “campaign arm.” Obama for America became Organizing for Action after the election ended. Accordingly, we changed our description to “Obama’s rebooted campaign arm.” We regret the error.
