NFL Draft coverage: Reaction throughout round 1

http://twitter.com/#!/MelKiperESPN/status/195570737476669441

To no surprise, Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck was taken first by the Indianapolis Colts, and Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III (or RG3) was taken second by the Washington Redskins.

Here is reaction from the first round of selections:

Agree. “@JordanRichison: With the 2nd round picks the Rams have, I'm sure Sam Bradford wouldn't mind having Alshon Jeffery as a target.”

— Travis Haney (@TravHaneyESPN) April 27, 2012

Curious that if they believed upgrades at those two spots could help #Browns win immediately, they didn't add WR in FA

— Bruce Hooley (@BHOOLZ) April 27, 2012

Claiborne thought it was a crank caller when Jerry Jones called.

— Peter King (@SI_PeterKing) April 27, 2012

Love Pats pick of Hightower. Versatile, explosive, heady guy. Plus Belichick probably has more faith in Saban's word than any coll coach.

— Bruce Feldman (@BruceFeldmanCFB) April 27, 2012

Vikings have traded up for Harrison Smith

— Chris Mortensen (@mortreport) April 27, 2012

I already tweeted about Trent! Best kid ever. Couldn't be happier for him.

— Greg McElroy (@GVMcElroy) April 27, 2012

Showing Whitney Mercilus dominate UCLA is fine, but I'd like to see his highlights against a college football team.

— The Solid Verbal (@SolidVerbal) April 27, 2012

The #Texans take Illinois DE/OLB Whitney Mercilus with the 26th pick in the 2012 Draft.

— Houston Texans (@HoustonTexans) April 27, 2012

Now that Lions have OT Riley Reiff in first round, here are my suggestions for their next six picks: CB, CB, CB, CB, CB, CB. #detroitlions

— Bob Wojnowski (@bobwojnowski) April 27, 2012

Iowa offensive tackle Riley Reiff is the newest Lion.

— Tim Twentyman (@ttwentyman) April 27, 2012

LEE GREENWOOD GOT DRAFTED BEFORE SOMEONE FROM THE BIG TEN

— Peter Berkes (@peterberkes) April 27, 2012

Titans pick Wright in the first round? BLANK STARE…are they on dope?

— Butch Worley (@butchworley) April 27, 2012

I don't want to say Brandon Weeden is old, but he remembers the last time the Browns had a good season.

— Faux John Madden (@FauxJohnMadden) April 27, 2012

Brandon Weeden was a member of the 1997 signing class, right?

— Tommy Deas (@tommydeas) April 27, 2012

Brandon Weeden is — literally — older than Aaron Rodgers.

— Will Brinson (@WillBrinson) April 27, 2012

Word. RT @slmandel: Brandon Weeden and Trent Richardson in the same backfield next year? That's pretty freaking cool.

— Bryan Fischer (@BryanDFischer) April 27, 2012

Waitaminute??!! The Patriots selected a pass-rusher? Like, for real?? Chandler Jones, huh? Strong.

— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 27, 2012

Shea McClellin goes #19 overall! #BoiseState #RespectTheUnderdogAthlete

— Alex Makoto Baldwin (@baldy_byu) April 27, 2012

Upshaw to New England? Fit perfectly doesn't it?

— Eric SanInocencio (@EricSan) April 27, 2012

Steve Ross on Ryan Tannehill: That was the player we wanted. It's really exciting. I'm thrilled.

— Izzy Gould (@IzzyGould) April 27, 2012

Not a single Big Ten player taken yet. SEC seemingly every other pick.

— Colin Cowherd (@ESPN_Colin) April 27, 2012

The defense just got that much better! Welcome Dre Kirkpatrick!

— Rey Maualuga (@maualuga58) April 27, 2012

Dre Kirkpatrick has been selected 17th overall by the Cincinnati Bengals. Dre makes 3 first rounders for the #Tide.

— Opening Drive (@openingdrive) April 27, 2012

Simmons: If anyone can get Quinton Coples to try, and then, not to try, it's Rex Ryan.

— Grantland Live (@GrantlandLive) April 27, 2012

Jet fans, Quinton Coples is a class act. Hung out with him at the office a few weeks ago. I think you'll be happy.

— Jason Romano (@JasonRomano) April 27, 2012

Good or bad, this Jets pick will be attributed somehow to Tebow.

— Andrew Brandt (@adbrandt) April 27, 2012

Coples? Eh. Another gholston.

— Jason McIntyre (@jasonrmcintyre) April 27, 2012

Man… Melvin Ingram skipped again. That's tough.

— Sara Jane Harris (@SaraJaneHarris) April 27, 2012

Michael Brocker to the Rams, Cookie sales about to go up in St. Louis

— trey wingo (@wingoz) April 27, 2012

If Larry Fitzgerald teaches Michael Floyd how to properly wear a cravat, and AZ get DOUBLE CRAVATS at WR, all has gone well already.

— Spencer Hall (@edsbs) April 27, 2012

and then the cardinals get michael floyd now he finna be showin his hops on us smh!

I didn't know Dontari Poe existed until his college career was over. And I live in Memphis. That might make an idiot. But it's true.

— Gary Parrish (@GaryParrishCBS) April 27, 2012

You're telling me Fletcher Cox couldn't play in a 3-4? Fletcher Cox is awesome. He could play DL in any system.

— Wes Rucker (@wesrucker247) April 27, 2012

Seriously, Roger Goodell has to be RAW at the end of the night from all these hugs he's getting from 250-pounds-and-up, over-eager rookies.

— Alex Byington (@AUBlog) April 27, 2012

Luke Kuechly? Very solid pick. Look at the production. Tough as nails

— Mark Schlabach (@Mark_Schlabach) April 27, 2012

Luke Kuechly becomes 1st BC linebacker taken in 1st round of draft. #eagles

— trey wingo (@wingoz) April 27, 2012

Carolina just got 1 helluva player! congratulations Luke Kuechly

— Anthony Castonzo (@AnthonyCastonzo) April 27, 2012

Ryan tannehill? What a reach…

— Dean Johnson (@DeanJohnson4) April 27, 2012

Miami Dolphins pick Ryan Tannehill #8 NFL Draft Pick.!

— God's Daughter (@Deja_LaShone) April 27, 2012

Ryan Tannehill is a lucky man. Not being a top 10 NFL pick. Anyone see his girlfriend?

— John Moore (@JohnTerryMoore) April 27, 2012

For the first time ever, the Buccaneers have used a first-round pick on a safety: Alabama's Mark Barron.

— Tampa Bay Buccaneers (@TBBuccaneers) April 27, 2012

https://twitter.com/#!/TheClothier/status/195675627750305793

Mark Barron taking the call from Tampa Bay. He is the seventh player off the board and the second Crimson Tide pick in the top 10….

— Alabama Athletics (@UA_Athletics) April 27, 2012

Boss move by the Cowboys going up and getting Morris Claiborne. Claiborne and Carr make a nice corner combo.

— Michael Smith (@michaelsmith) April 27, 2012

HUGE SCORE FOR COWBOYS. Trade up to steal Morris Claiborne, exactly what they need. Adding Mo and BCarr, Rob Ryan back in business on D.

— Skip Bayless (@RealSkipBayless) April 27, 2012

Morris Claiborne + Cowboys= beast mode

— Rey Taliaferro (@tali_badazz) April 27, 2012

Jaguars select WR Justin Blackmon.

— Jacksonville Jaguars (@Jaguars) April 27, 2012

Justin Blackmon seem like he 6'5 on the field !

— Bradley Beal (@RealDealBeal23) April 27, 2012

@AdrianPeterson: Great Selection Vikes! We welcome you with open arms! Matt Kalil” yessir

— Randy Cruz (@cruzr83) April 27, 2012

After watching the highlight reel of Matt Kalil I'm not impressed. He didn't face any BIG D-linemen & only knocked around d-backs & backers

— Kyle Crump (@kcrumpy9) April 27, 2012

Vikings pick OT Matt Kalil. Not who I wanted but he's dominant and will open holes for AP and protect Ponder's blindside for yrs to come

— Craig Leverone (@DisShitCraig) April 27, 2012

Fifty years after Cleveland drafted Ernie Davis, they've traded up to No. 3 to draft another RB, Trent Richardson.

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) April 26, 2012

"Every time you tackle him, it's a business decision." -Jon Gruden on Trent Richardson

— Hunter Johnson (@HunterLJohnson) April 27, 2012

Congratulations to Stanford's Andrew Luck being selected #1! Go Colts!

Blue Crew — the bar in Indy we're at — just exploded in cheers when Andrew Luck came up on NFL Network.

— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) April 27, 2012

RG3 TO THE WASHINGTON REDSKINS!!!!!!!!

— RiRi (@RillitaMichelle) April 27, 2012

Stanford QB Andrew Luck just came down the red carpet. He looks a lot more relaxed than most of these guys, for obvious reasons.

— Tampa Bay Buccaneers (@TBBuccaneers) April 26, 2012

RG3 is smart. He went and got himself a pink toe!! Smart move bro!!

— Mal Freeman Newton (@iMalRay) April 27, 2012

Kind of hate that Andrew Luck is going to Indy, a franchise I've never liked (Jets fan) and usually root against.

— Jason McIntyre (@jasonrmcintyre) April 27, 2012

The #Redskins are picking RG3? Oh my god. Totally blown away by this draft so far. Such suspense!

With the second pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select… Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor

— Jacob L. Brungardt (@Louie_D16) April 26, 2012

So Colts are going to get Andrew Luck and the Deadskins are getting RG III

— ℞bell (@Rxbell) April 26, 2012

Andrew Luck's dorkiness = Peyton Manning's. Perfect fit for the #Colts. #NFLDraft

— Matthew Carrera (@ChiroGuyDC) April 26, 2012

I'm glad were getting RGIII hope they use him to his full advantage

— caprice coles (@capricecamille) April 26, 2012

RGIII is a substantially better athlete, I think him and luck are similar in the mental aspect. But RGIII puts on a much better show.
