Liberals rail against conservatives who doubted Hillary Clinton’s concussion

Prior to this evening, a lot of conservatives were skeptical about Hillary Clinton’s concussion. Now Clinton is in the hospital for a concussion-related blood clot and many liberals are rubbing conservatives’ faces in it.

Here are Fox News “journalists” suggesting that Hillary Clinton’s concussion was faked: mediamatters.org/mobile/blog/20…

Looking forward to all of the #concussiongate theorists suffering absolutely no professional consequences.

— Tim Murphy (@timothypmurphy) December 31, 2012

To all of the #Republicans who suggested #HilaryClinton was ‘faking’ the concussion she sustained several weeks ago, I say shame on you.

— Sean Simons (@seanrsimons) December 31, 2012

Wow. Wonder where all those republicans saying she was faking her concussion are now. Fuckers.

— Adam Holisky (@AdamHolisky) December 31, 2012

Lunatic stuff @buzzfeedandrew: Some conservatives argued Clinton faked concussion to avoid testifying. twitter.com/RichardGrenell…

— John Harwood (@JohnJHarwood) December 31, 2012

A normal person, after accusing someone of faking a medical condition that subsequently deteriorates, expresses contrition. A normal person.

— Simon Maloy (@SimonMaloy) December 31, 2012

Wonder if those sarcastically doubting Sec. Clinton’s health will have the decency to apologize….I’m not exactly holding my breath.

— Jeff Greenfield (@greenfield64) December 31, 2012

Jonathan Chait, a writer for New York magazine, wonders how his fellow liberals would react if the shoe were on the other foot.

If a Republican claimed concussion before testimony over controvery or pseudocontroversy, would liberals believe them? Many wouldn’t.

— Jonathan Chait (@jonathanchait) December 31, 2012

BTW, I think GOP and Dems are asymmetrical in many ways, but don’t think Clinton concussion crankery exposes that.

— Jonathan Chait (@jonathanchait) December 31, 2012

Chait’s liberal readers don’t agree. In their view, no reasonable person could have doubted Clinton’s concussion. What’s more, they argue, no liberal would ever doubt the word of a Republican official who avoided testimony by claiming illness or injury. (Because when Republicans have health problems, liberals are all class.)

@jonathanchait stop that bullshit its about being plain human … this is just fricking childish…be better than that …!

— Robert Wisdom (@RobertRayWisdom) December 31, 2012

@jonathanchait Are you freaking kidding me? What sane person would mock someone for having a concussion? Stop the false equivalency crap.

— Nerdy Wonka (@NerdyWonka) December 31, 2012

@jonathanchait Really? With the trying to let these bastards off the hook with false equivalency hypothetical mess?

— Pnthrgrlgail (@Mama4Obama1) December 31, 2012

@jonathanchait You are very wrong. If anything, Liberals are too trusting. Dems also wouldn’t destroy the economy just to make political pts

— GirlFuturist (@GirlFuturist) December 31, 2012

Meanwhile, some conservatives are not in an apologetic mood:

I am shocked — SHOCKED — that some commentators doubted the honesty of a career politician.

— Jon Gabriel (@ExJon) December 31, 2012

Obama claimed that Mitt Romney gave a woman cancer which killed her. But asking a question about a concussion is WAY out of bounds.

— Jon Gabriel (@ExJon) December 31, 2012

Yes, I thought Hillary was lying about the concussion. Because she’s a liar. I was obviously wrong, but I’m not apologizing for it.

— RB (@RBPundit) December 31, 2012

When Clinton gets better (and we hope she gets better soon), we look forward to discussing whether she deserves the trust her supporters think she is due.
