Obama yesterday: #DontDoubleMyRate; Obama today: Let the rates double!

Remember that student loan interest rate increase Obama spent all week campaigning against? Eeeevil Republicans were going to force starving college grads to cough up an extra $7 a month. 7 whole dollars! Why, that’s almost as bad as burdening them with the cost of their own birth control!

Obama pulled out all the stops: a three-state tour, tales of personal hardship and woe, the #DontDoubleMyRate hashtag, and even impassioned pleas from Sandra Fluke, patron saint of gimme stuff.

Yeah, well, apparently pandering to student borrowers is about as crucial as it was in 2007 when Obama skipped out on the vote.

Obama wants to veto student loan legislation that he was just campaigning for. Bipolar politics at its best.

Not political. Not at all. RT @NathanWurtzel: WH now threatens to veto the student loan interest rate relief legislation it asked for.

Rank hypocrisy: WH wants to keep student loan rates down, but not if it means tiny cut to Obamacare. http://t.co/2pkV695g

The White House threatened to veto the student loan bill. Why do they hate college students & poor ppl? #DontDoubleBackOnNotDoublingMyRate

Seriously? God damn it. RT @JeffreyFeldman #GOP tries to poison student loan bill with amendment to slash health care http://t.co/9pdNU2MO

Of course. The Obama administration is threatening to veto the rate freeze bill because it “would make cuts to programs aimed at women’s health.” Obamacare is sacred. Keeping subsidized student loan rates the same? Not so much.

Your move, Sandra Fluke. How do you want to play this one? Are you For the Women™ or For the Students™? Or are you just for whatever that dreamy Obama tells you to be for when the phone rings?
