ESPN’s Adam Shefter shared some interesting information with his followers on Twitter early Sunday morning. Apparently, San Francisco 49ers starting quarterback Alex Smith is meeting with the Miami Dolphins today to discuss the possibility of joining their team.

On Friday the 49ers surfaced as secret contenders in the Peyton Manning sweepstakes, but nobody took it too seriously since all signs pointed to either Denver or Tennessee. This makes us wonder if Manning isn’t considering the 49ers more seriously than we originally thought.

Should 49ers free-agent QB Alex Smith wind up signing in Miami, he would rejoin his former high-school teammate, Reggie Bush.
