President to reveal executive orders on guns in ‘short order’
Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the man behind “grassroots” gun-control nonprofits Everytown for Gun Safety andMoms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, visited the White House today, and if you guessed the visit had something to do with gun control, you’re correct.
What’s this now about “an executive order tightening access to guns”? CNN reportsonly that “Valerie Jarrett, Obama’s senior adviser who also attended the meeting with Bloomberg Wednesday, said this week that the executive orders would be reveled in ‘short order,’ but refused to offer any more detailed timelines.”
What’s the harm in that? Well, as part of his plan to confront terrorism, President Obama has shown a very loose understanding of due process recently by declaring it “insane” to allow citizens on the country’s No-Fly list to purchase firearms. For his part on guns, Bloomberg hasn’t been specific about “those who should not have them,” but it would certainly make a lot of those demanding moms happy if the government just confiscated them all.
Emily Miller of FOX5 News DC and author of “Emily Gets Her Gun” notes that the press wasn’t welcome to the gun control get-together.
The White House briefing room says only:
Today, President Obama met with former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg as part of the Administration’s continuing push to address gun violence in America. The two discussed ways to keep guns out of the hands of those who should not have access to them and what more could be done at the state and local level to help address gun violence in America. The President also thanked him for his dedication to such an important issue.
Actually, there was one other topic on the table.
Additionally, the President thanked Mayor Bloomberg for his leadership as UN Special Envoy for Cities and Climate in helping to achieve the historic climate agreement in Paris on December 12th. The President and Mayor Bloomberg discussed the importance of state and local climate action in implementing the agreement as well as the President’s Climate Action Plan. The President’s Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett was also in attendance.
Climate change is the real danger; maybe Bloomberg could be sent to one of the polar ice caps to keep an eye on progress.
