This past Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court issued a stay on Utah’s recently-overturned ban on same-sex marriage. On Wednesday, the governor’s office announced that it would not recognize the same-sex marriages that had taken place while the ban was overturned.
But today, Attorney General Eric Holder announced that, despite the state’s stance on the Supreme Court’s action, the federal government would recognize all same-sex marriages performed in Utah:
