Cuban-Venezuelan actress Maria Conchita Alonso is a staunch anti-Communist and Hollywood conservative. This week, she came under fire from Latino groups after appearing in a bilingual campaign ad for California Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, a GOP gubernatorial candidate who opposes illegal immigration.

On Friday, Alonso reportedly resigned from a San Francisco production.
“We really cannot have her in the show, unfortunately,” Lopez told KPIX 5. She said Alonso abruptly resigned from the cast on Friday, given the backlash on the immigration issue.
“Of course she has the right to say whatever she wants. But we’re in the middle of the Mission. Doing what she is doing is against what we believe,” Lopez said.
Some pearl-clutching critics also claimed they objected to “vulgar language” in what was intended as a humorous ad. Ex-president of the San Francisco Latino Democratic Club Jim Salinas said, “That is not a typical Latina,” and indicated there might have been boycotts had she not resigned.
The politically-motivated attacks on Alonso inspired these tweets from a Hispanic Tea Party conservative.
