Angerover the death of Laquan McDonald, a black teen who was shot 16 times by a Chicago police officer in 2014, and the alleged year-longcover-upof the incriminating dash-cam video, led protesters to demonstrateoutside Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel’s house for several days. Sympathy demonstrations spread to New York, where protesters held die-ins on the floors ofMacy’s and Saks in the run-up to Christmas.

A surprise, one-woman demand that Emanuel be fired caught quite a few people by surprise today as Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, who oversaw the Freddie Gray riots that destroyed parts of the city, spoke at theUnited States Conference of Mayors in Washington, D.C. today.

The interruption by #BlackLivesMatter organizerApril Goggans was quiet, but led to quite a scramble to remove her from her spot in front of the lectern.

CNN reports that Emanuel’s office had no comment on the protester, but that he did speak later in the day on, of all topics, “Reducing Violence and Strengthening Police/Community Trust.”

“Every encounter between law enforcement and a resident is a teachable moment,” Emanuel told the assembled mayors.
