Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. spoke out in defense of food mogul Paula Deen on Thursday, saying she should be redeemed not destroyed. Though the tweets came from an unverified Twitter account, they are similar to comments Rev. Jackson has made elsewhere:
Jackson told The Associated Press on Wednesday that Deen called him this week, and they discussed how she might recover.
Jackson says if Deen is willing to acknowledge mistakes and make changes, “she should be reclaimed rather than destroyed.”
Jackson says he’s more troubled by racial disparities in jobs, lending, health care, business opportunities and the criminal justice system.
The small gesture of reasonableness and civility toward Deen was enough to send many Twitter users over the edge (warning: explicit language):

We’ve come to expect this sort of language when the target is a prominent conservative such as Sarah Palin or Rick Santorum.
It’s not every day, however, that we see this kind of vitriol directed at a liberal. Evidently, liberals’ hatred of Paula Deen trumps any warm feelings some may have toward Rev. Jackson.
