Tennessee native Colton Dixon, 20, got the boot on American Idol tonight. It was his first — and last — time in the bottom three.
Dixon fell to his knees and bid farewell with a spiritual rendition of “Everything” by Lifehouse. Before the results were announced, he tweeted:
Romans 12:1-2 Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds.

Many fans showed their appreciation of his faith testimony on Twitter tonight:
Colton Dixon sings his swan song w/depth & emotion. He handles himself with class & professionalism. It's just the beginning for him. #idol

@DixonTeam Colton, you have seriously touched my heart. I love your christian roots and that in itself has made me a better person. Continue

I don't understand why the producers got mad when Colton sang Christian but LMFAO can get on stage and be disgusting.

Colton did a christian song for his last one . ♥ respect .

How much do we want to bet that Colton was kicked off because he wouldn't "tone down" his "overtly Christian references"? #proudchristian

Former Idol and X Factor contestants also sent their praise and condolences:
Tonight's #Idol result is going to make me cry
— Pia Toscano (@PiaToscano) April 20, 2012
Colton is going to be amazing the rest of his life, he's an amazing musician, ad he loves Jesus! He is perfect!

I cannot believe the results tonight. Anyone else shocked? That completely blindsided me. #idol

But not all of his fans were so gracious. Immediately after the show, “WTF America” was trending in reaction to the news:
WTF AMERICA COLTON DESERVED TO STAY !#idol

everyone trending WTF America should have voted for Colton, then we wouldn't be tweeting this right now. #ivoted

Two weeks ago, DeAndre. Next, Jessica — earned the lowest number of votes (saved). Now, Colton Dixon? No wonder 'WTF America' is trending.

"WTF America" & "Colton" is trending Worldwide..this was a mistake. 🙁

At least there were no hysterical Twitter cries of “racism” this week.
