One smart man! “@politico: BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) – Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal cancels plans to attend Republican National Convention.”

— Karl Edelmann (@kjemd) August 27, 2012

Jindal is still waiting for FEMA to approve his request for Louisiana to be declared a state of emergency prior to Isaac making landfall.

"FEMA says that request is still pending" #ugh MT@GOHSEP Gov Jindal: We requested a pre-landfall emergency declaration from @FEMA last night

Update:

After the press conference, Jindal tweeted more on his decision and the current state of emergency in Louisiana.

Just completed another meeting with the Unified Command Group and wanted to give you an update.

First, I will not be speaking or attending the Republican convention in Florida.

— Gov. Bobby Jindal (@BobbyJindal) August 27, 2012

Party conventions are interesting but there’s no time for politics here in Louisiana.

— Gov. Bobby Jindal (@BobbyJindal) August 27, 2012

This storm, like every other storm is non-partisan. This is a time when we must all come together.

— Gov. Bobby Jindal (@BobbyJindal) August 27, 2012

One of the things I want to make clear is that every storm is unique. There are now 20 parishes under a hurricane warning.

— Gov. Bobby Jindal (@BobbyJindal) August 27, 2012

Forecast currently shows that the storm will make landfall as a strong Category 1 hurricane.

— Gov. Bobby Jindal (@BobbyJindal) August 27, 2012

The slow moving nature of this storm means that there may be many parts of our state inundated with heavy winds & rain for many hours.

— Gov. Bobby Jindal (@BobbyJindal) August 27, 2012

There could be inland parishes that experience strong winds and a lot of rain. Please stay tuned to advisories & alerts.

— Gov. Bobby Jindal (@BobbyJindal) August 27, 2012

The national weather service has a low level of confidence on the direction of the storm, anyone within the cone should be prepared.
