Actress Stacey Dash might be outraged, but she’s certainly not surprised that former NAACP chairman Julian Bond would pull the race card today in defending the IRS against charges that the agency targeted conservative groups for extra scrutiny, sometimes to the point of harassment. Actually, that’s not quite accurate: they’re not charges, as the IRS has admitted to flagging Tea Party groups and other organizations that educate on the Bill of Rights and criticize the way the government is run. But that’s OK, Bond told MSNBC, because the Tea Party is “admittedly racist” and thus deserves it.
Even if that claim were true, and it most certainly is not — is Bond really comfortable with the idea of the IRS being used as a tool of punishment?
