Alyssa Milano warns followers about voter suppression

The “Who’s the Boss?” actress has apparently bought into the idea that the GOP’s proposed voter ID laws are designed with the express purpose of preventing minorities and the elderly from voting. She tweeted out a link to a fear-mongering Mother Jones article, complete with composite disenfranchised voters:
Since the start of 2011, more than 180 bills have been introduced in 41 states (and counting) that could make it harder for you to register to vote, prove that you’re eligible to vote, vote early, or vote by mail. In fact, the Brennan Center for Justice estimates that at least 5 million voters nationwide could be affected by these bills. Thanks, local legislators!
Twitterers were quick to point out that there is nothing discriminatory about requiring valid IDs from potential voters:
@Alyssa_Milano ID is required while signing a check, or getting a new address at the Post Office. Showing ID to vote does not a block make.

@Alyssa_Milano not sure why these laws bother you. To open a bank account, you need a photo id. #whatstheissue

@Alyssa_Milano @MotherJones Not hard to get id. When i go to register my car if i dont have everything they send me away. No difference here

@Alyssa_Milano @MotherJones. Pretty gross. I'm independent – it is evident the left is trying to corrupt the vote more than the right

@alyssa_milano LOL I live in Illinois aka corruption central. This is fear mongering…you need ID for everything in today's world.

@Alyssa_Milano @MotherJones Dems pissed because it's harder to commit voter fraud now You can't cash a check, rent apartment, without ID

@Alyssa_Milano @motherjones bet they wouldn't have a problem getting I'd to cash check or get free healthcare. Liberal bullshit.

@Alyssa_Milano @MotherJones You should absolutely have to have Id to vote. You need it to get on a plane, by liquor but not vote???/Plz

And some reminded Milano that, while voter suppression does exist, it’s not the GOP that’s guilty:
@Alyssa_Milano @MotherJones The only documented case of voter intimidation in 08 was armed Black Panthers in Pennsylvania Holder let em go

“@Alyssa_Milano: A few things you should know about vote-blocking: http://t.co/t6ImV4RG" Me: You mean other than the black panthers?
