ESPN’s Rick Reilly ‘congratulates’ Congress for enabling Boston bombers

Sportswriter Rick Reilly has a point: nothing the government does stops criminals from buying semi-automatic rifles illegally. If only the Senate had the courage earlier this month to ban terrorist bombings … it would have done about as much to have prevented the Boston Marathon bombing as universal background checks. As Reuters reported, “neither brother appears to have been legally entitled to own or carry firearms where they lived.”

Rick Reilly’s misdirected shot at Congress fouled out with followers who would prefer to place the blame where it belongs.

His weapons were illegal Mr. Low Information Voter RT @reillyrick: Boston bomber on terror watch list but doesn’t stop you from buying guns.

@reillyrick @pgammo You know what we need? More gun laws. That oughtta do the trick next time.

— Atlas Explorer (@AtlasExplorer) April 24, 2013

@reillyrick he got them illegally Rick. Background checks would have accomplished nothing @thekingdude #getyourfactsstraight

— Eric Marshall (@golfman2345) April 24, 2013

@reillyrick yeah, where was the background check for those obviously illegal guns that weren’t purchased thru a dealer?!?!?#goodtry

— Joshua Blissett (@jbiz13) April 24, 2013

@reillyrick that’s a pointless statement. It didn’t stop them from making a bomb either. Stop trying to disarm law abiding citizens.

@reillyrick if congress outlawed guns they still would have bought those rifles the same way. ILLEGALLY OUT OF THE BACK OF A VAN #obamafools

— Matt Buschbacher (@buschx2) April 24, 2013

@reillyrick don’t think he bought those at Walmart, Rick.

— Jim Popson (@JMP611) April 24, 2013

@reillyrick show me where he bought a gun. I’m surprised you liberals aren’t trying to ban pressure cookers.

— Preston (@thepozr) April 24, 2013

@reillyrick guy sets off a bomb to kill people and you still want to blame guns?Seriously?

— Rob Thomas (@RobbyT87) April 24, 2013

@reillyrick I believe he obtained them illegally.

— Peter Dunn (@PeterDunn66) April 25, 2013

@reillyrick he was on welfare too, who are we going to blame that on? Politicizing this event is shameful #fool #hypocrite

— Jason Childs (@jchilds20) April 24, 2013

@reillyrickI thought they set off bombs?

— Michael Cooper (@Coopermg) April 24, 2013

@reillyrick bombs and guns are different

— Lucas Jones (@LucJones18) April 24, 2013

@reillyrick know the facts before you look stupid. They were not licensed weapons. Illegally obtained. Another law doesn’t stop that

— Mike(@mikesnyder86) April 24, 2013

@reillyrick Actually it does keep you from buying one. Amazing how many people believe bkground cks aren’t required to buy guns.
