Burrito bullies: Progs pressure Chipotle into withdrawing Boy Scout event sponsorship

http://twitter.com/#!/ChipotleTweets/status/314043121413550081

Caving to leftist thugs is the right thing to do? Since when?

Fast-food chain Chipotle was all set to sponsor a Boy Scout fundraising event in Utah. But for the bullies at ThinkProgress, that just didn’t suit:

.@chipotletweets admits it’s violating its nondiscrimination policy to fund Boy Scouts event thkpr.gs/Ym4xwC #foodwithoutintegrity

— ThinkProgress (@thinkprogress) March 19, 2013

A ThinkProgress review of the company’s charitable giving policies found that Chipotle’s guidelines explicitly states that the company “will not support organizations that discriminate against a person or a group on the basis of age, political affiliation, race, national origin, ethnicity, gender, disability, sexual orientation or religious belief.”

How dare Chipotle support the Boy Scouts of America? Who do they think they are? Surely, they must be stopped. And evidently, the powers that be at Chipotle agree. Chipotle tweeter “Rusty” has spent the past several hours assuring anyone and everyone that the chain has pulled sponsorship. Because “it’s the right thing to do.” Uh-huh.

@mr4thor We cancelled our participation in this event, not just due to our policy, but because it’s the right thing to do.  -Rusty

Of course, shameless thuggery had nothing to do with it.

Many Twitterers are sick and tired of progressive outfits targeting businesses who don’t fall in lock-step with their views.

Crap move bullying @chipotletweets for sponsoring the #BSA, @thinkprogress. You guys are disgusting.thkpr.gs/Ym4xwC #tcot #p2

— Sister Toldjah (@sistertoldjah) March 19, 2013

.@sistertoldjah @tpequality @chipotletweets ‘Think Progress’, more like ‘Think Big Bully Liberals’!

— John Lair (@johnlair58) March 19, 2013

Heroic. MT @juddlegum: We report Chipotle violating it’s [sic] non-discrimination policy by sponsoring Boy Scouts event, Chipotle cancels

— Guy Benson (@guypbenson) March 19, 2013

And as for the businesses that cave to bullies, they’re fed up:

So, @chipotletweets are the latest bunch of corporate cowards, eh?

— Phineas Fahrquar (@irishspy) March 19, 2013

.@chipotletweets The Boy Scouts are a decent organization; you withdrawing support looks indecent. I’m very disappointed in you.

— suzyrice (@suzy_rice) March 19, 2013

@chipotletweets Not eating here anymore. I hate when businesses get caught up in politics. I’m sure they do too when they lose customers!

— the20somethingRight (@20somethinRight) March 19, 2013

@jimmiebjr @chipotletweets Are you kidding me? Come on, Chipolte. BSA is about skill, team and confidence building, wth? #BoycottPantsOn

— Komrade Kari (@Kari_in_Kansas) March 19, 2013

Hey @chipotletweets there are plenty of psuedo-Mexican options near me. De-funding Boy Scouts means I de-fund your stores.

— ¢ wise, £ foolish (@logoffnow) March 19, 2013

@repub9989 Pulled funding from the Boy Scouts. The (In)Tolerance Brigade strikes again. @chipotletweets

— Angela Nelson (@angelaisms) March 19, 2013

@chipotletweets based on your boy scout decision we will Never eat at chipotle again. Never. and will spread the word..

— PATTI RADDI (@pbrasga) March 19, 2013

@chipotletweets I’m upset about corporate’s bigotry against the Boy Scouts. Not your fault Joe, but that’s the reason for my displeasure.

— Jon Gabriel (@ExJon) March 19, 2013

Some are vowing to take their business elsewhere:

@chipotletweets hey I’ve decided to only frequent Freebirds now and I’m advising all my family and friends as well cause its the right thing

— Eric (@Ericb1980) March 19, 2013

Hey @chipotletweets, I’ve decided I should eat at @qdobamexgrill.It’s just the right thing to do.

— Ben Howe (@BenHowe) March 19, 2013

The effectiveness of boycotts is certainly up for debate:

@lilmissrightie I’ll still hit up Chipotle every once in a while. But they are pussies.

— RB (@RBPundit) March 19, 2013

So. Much. This. RT ‏@rbpundit Your point is valid. I prefer the “buycotts” myself.

— LilMissHoosier (@LilMissRightie) March 19, 2013

If I boycotted every eatery, actor/actress, band, author etc who didn’t cater to my political views, I’d never eat out/be entertained again.

— LilMissHoosier (@LilMissRightie) March 19, 2013

But one thing is for sure:

@chipotletweets @antalexga Kids as shields. Kids as pawns. Kids as props. Your answer…drop them like they are the problem. Not right. SMH!

— Howard Hicks (@howardhicks4) March 19, 2013

Sad that @chipotletweets got bullied out of funding the Utah scouts. Those kids didn’t ask to be anyone’s political pawns.

— Matt Cover (@MattCover) March 19, 2013

No. They didn’t.
